Word from the Minister!

Jim Prentice
The Honourable Jim Prentice

It is a pleasure to welcome you to Parks Canada featuring the largest network of discovery and leisure places in Canada. Here you will find paths to explore Canada’s national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas, and information about the tremendous opportunities they offer all Canadians to enjoy inspiring discoveries.

I am honoured to take on the Parks Canada portfolio as part of my responsibilities as Minister of the Environment. Across Canada and internationally, the Parks Canada Agency is recognized as one of the most competent and knowledgeable heritage conservation agencies. As well, its role as a key leader in sustainable tourism opportunities is valued in the tourism industry.

Our national heritage places are dear to all Canadians and provide a sense of place for communities across Canada. We have a tremendous opportunity and responsibility to advance their protection for the benefit and enjoyment of future generations. It is this responsibility that guides Parks Canada’s work: preserving our national heritage places, so that Canadians can continue to enjoy them through meaningful experiences.

These places belong to all Canadians. I invite you to discover the grandeur, history and passion of these irreplaceable treasures, which are the very essence of Canada and reflect Parks Canada’s promise to Canadians. Getting to know them will help us all understand how important it is to preserve their integrity for the health of our environment, the celebration of our history and the enjoyment of today’s and future generations of Canadians.

The Honourable Jim Prentice, P.C., Q.C., M.P.
Minister of the Environment and Minister responsible for Parks Canada
